Fostering rescue animals is a rewarding experience; it provides animals with one-on-one interaction, increases our capacity for intakes and helps improve our reach to find new homes. If you have space for an enclosure and time to care for a new addition, why not give it a try?

A full set-up can be loaned to you, for as long as you foster for us. Any animal that comes to live with you is covered by our rescue; so food, vet care and anything else they need is paid for. If you need us, we are there to advise and support you, privately or via our fostering WhatsApp group.

Eligibility

  • We will need to complete an in-person home-check, perform an ID check and see written permission from the homeowner that you are allowed to keep animals on the property.
  • Our Foster Family Agreement must be signed and adhered to.
  • You will need to be comfortable performing the main aspects of the animal’s care by yourself, though we are on-hand to support if needed – for example, you will need to be able to feed and clean them out.
  • Our fosters are required to update activity logs via Google Drive, so access to a Google account and the ability to update these is needed.
  • We will need to visit you in-person regularly, this will always be arranged with you and planned in advance.
  • Ideally, you will need to be able to travel to our vets in Shifnal, if required.

Foster-to-Adopt

If you’re considering adopting an exotic pet, but you’re unsure if it will be the right fit for you, we offer an opportunity to foster an animal with a view to adopt. It initially works as described above, however we set a 3-month period for fostering, after which you can make the decision to adopt the animal officially.

During your fostering period, we can help you set up your own enclosure that meets our adoption requirements, to avoid any delays at the end of the 3 months.

Long-Term Fostering

Sometimes, animals enter our care and are diagnosed with lifelong conditions, becoming permanent residents to our rescue. In some of these cases, animals will remain contagious and therefore a risk to other individuals; this is where long-term fostering is vital.

Long-term fostering allows us to continue the care of these animals for the rest of their lives, while ensuring our other animals are not at risk of cross-contamination. As with normal fostering, we provide everything you need, the only difference is, the animal will not be available for rehoming and therefore will stay with you for as long as they live, unless your circumstances change.

Due to the nature of long-term fostering, we are unable to say how long the animals will live. Some conditions allow them to live a normal life-span despite being a carrier of a disease, while some will cause them to deteriorate slowly over time, or leave them more susceptible to other ailments. For this reason, we will continue to check-in with you regularly to assess the animals quality of life, and we do reserve the right to decide on euthanasia if this is of concern. All discussions about this will involve you.
