Help us make a better life for exotic pets!
Role: Trustee (Voluntary)
Location: Telford, Shropshire
Time commitment: minimum 4 meetings per year
Application deadline: 06/04/2026
We are in the process of establishing our non-profit animal welfare organisation as a registered charity and we are looking for passionate individuals to join our founding committee.
This is an exciting opportunity to help guide an existing welfare organisation dedicated to improving the lives of exotic pets and supporting our community.
As a trustee, you will help guide our organisation through its early development, including supporting our application for registration with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. Once registered, trustees will continue to oversee the governance and strategic direction of our charity, as well as support with any additional admin tasks as agreed.

Our activites include:
- Rescuing animals from harmful situations
- Rehabilitating animals by providing appropriate care and vet treatment
- Rehoming animals to suitable, loving homes
- Supporting pet owners with rehoming, funding and advice
- Educating the public on appropriate care for exotic pet species

The Role of a Trustee
Trustees are responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of a charity.
Guidance from the Charity Commission for England and Wales states that trustees are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run.
This means trustees work together to set an organisation’s direction, make key decisions, and ensure the charity is operating effectively and in line with its governing document.
Your Commitment
We expect applicants to be able to commit to the below as a minimum:
- Be involved in the finalising of our structure, governance and direction.
- Support with the intial application for charitable status.
- Attend a minimum of 4 committee meetings each year.
- Contribute to discussions or activities between meetings as needed.
Other duties can be agreed upon depending on what you’d like to be involved with.
Your Skills & Experience
We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds and prior experience as a trustee is not necessary. The below skills and experience are particularly valuable:
- Finance or accounting
- Legal or governance knowledge
- Animal welfare experience
- Charity or non-profit experience
- Grant application experience
It would be desirable for applicants to be based locally (Telford, Shropshire, UK) and able to travel within this area of their own accord. However, the most valuable qualities are enthusiasm, reliability and a passion for improving the lives of animals.
Jelly Exotics prides itself on being a safe space for all. Trustees must actively support our committment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Eligibility
Applicants must be at least 16 years old and must not be disqualified from acting as a charity trustee under the rules set out by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
